Satguru kabir jayanti celebrated on 7th june 2009,Daily Excelsior


Kabir Jayanti celebrated with fervour

JAMMU, June 7: The 611th Kabir Jayanti was celebrated by Bhagat Mahasabha at a largely attended function held at Parade Ground, here today.

The Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, who was chief guest on the occasion, called upon the people to follow the teachings of sadguru Kabirji and rid the society of its many evils. He said the message of the great guru is full of compassion, high spiritual values and universal brotherhood.

Complimenting the Bhagat Mahasabha for organising the Kabir Jayanti celebration, Tara Chand said it is need of the hour to maintain unity and harmony for integrated advancement of the society.

The Deputy Chief Minister outlined the main development works and welfare schemes launched in Jammu and Kashmir for the upliftment of

SC, ST, OBCs, Border Area and others. The Jammu and Kashmir now has an Act of legislation while previously there was SRO only, he said adding that the weaker sections should derive maximum benefit out of all such welfare schemes.

Referring to demand for declaring holiday on Kabir Jayanti day, the Deputy Chief Minister assured that he would raise this point in the next meeting of the State Cabinet.

Suman Bhagat, former Minister in her speech underlined the importance of Sant Kabir’s message and asked the people to do away with social evils like dowry, have simple marriages and avoid drinking.

Prof Raj Kumar, national president of Bhagat Mahasabha called for unity among the community. Lal Chand Bhagat, state president of the Mahasabha, Rajesh Bhagat, Kuldeep Raj Bhagat, Dr O P Bhagat, Bali Bhagat, ex-MLA, Ram Lal, Dev Raj, Shanta Devi daughter of Shaheed Amar Nath and other prominent leaders also spoke on the occasion. Neha Bhagat, a school child, who also spoke, impressed the audience with her eloquence in espousing message of sadguru Kabir.

A programme of bhajans and kirtan was also organised and Dr Ambedkar School students presented a cultural item.
